"BUt carbs make you fat!"

Indeed they can. Some of you might be on the fence about eating tasty carbs because of all of the other articles you've read. But carbs are the fastest and most readily used source of energy that we can give to our bodies. Without them our bodies will start to shut down many important functions so that it may invest more of its energy to the functions that it deams most important like brain function and digestion. In turn the process's it ignors suffer.

Poor Cognition and "brain fog"

Your brain will run entirly off of glucose given the oppurtunity. That is what it prefers to funtion on and is what it uses best. Though if you begin low carb diet and depleat your glycogen stores, it is forced to use another fuel source. In this case it resorts to ketones. While this is a valuable state to enter periodically, extended periods of ketotsis can lead to many issues including "brain fog" which is an overall feeling of poor cognition on retention.

Decreased performance

By never replinishing the glycogen stores in the body, you are robbing your body of its ability to perform athletically on highl levels frequently. This is'nt a big problem for sedintary populations, but it posses a huge threat for any athleate or regular exerciser who is engaging in strict weekly training regimins. Outside of athletic performance, you may find that your other types of performance will also suffer on a low carb diet plan. This is because your body doesnt deam those area's as important as others and will not maintain them as well as it did before the low carb diet began. Surely nobody wants that...

Irriatablity and Depression

Adhearing to a zero carb diet or at least an extremlly low one being around 50 grams or less per day is linked to numerous issues. One compent that is effected is the practicioners overall mood. Many will find that they are easily irritated and can even start down the road of depressinon/eating disorders if they refrane from eating any carbs regularly.

Negative effects on Metabolism

When on a low carb diet your thyroid and leptin levels will all dercrease drasically causing your resting metabolism to come to a screaching halt. Because of this you can kiss any kind of weight loss goodbye as it simply will not happen. The added stress on your body is what causes this and can lead to decreased testosterone production and increased cortosol production, which in turn will cause muscle loss and an increased storage of fat. Adreanal Fatigue will also set in due to an excess of stress on every cell in the body, which will leave you feeling down, fatigued, and tired. You want your metabolism to be as high as it can be and burn as many calories as possible!
